As I get farther into my reading I am starting to have more substantial thoughts surrounding characters. I wanted to analyze my initial thoughts that surround the wife in this book, Amy Dunne. With this character I can find myself relating to her in some ways. She is a feminist. She is independent. She doesn't like to depend on anyone. You can see this even in the tiny glimpse we have seen into her life. It was her parents who got her the house that she shared with her husband. She waited until her 30's to get married and she wasn't ashamed of it. I also feel that to an extent she is a people pleaser. You can tell, though, that those are just her first thoughts. That isn't what she always makes sure she does. In the end she does do what she wants. I see this when she talks about her parents and the book they made around her life, Amazing Amy. She talks about how whenever something in her childhood didn't end up going the way her parents had hoped it would, they would make sure it would go right in the books. She did not let this bother her, though. She also seems to be a happy person in general. When she is the one talking, it is at a different time than Nick is talking. There is a deep comparison in the way Nick describes her and the way she is portrayed. Nick seems to make her seem bitter and sad at the world, when so far she seems to be happy and very loving towards her husband. I am interested to see if she changes at all or if Nick just perceives her in a different way.

Gone Girl was not my first choice in a book, though I am glad this is the book I am reading, in the end. I am only two chapters in, and this book has been very easy to get into. The book is split up into three parts, "Boy Loses Girl", "Boy Meets Girl", and "Boy Gets Girl Back (Or Vice Versa)" .The book, so far, is being told in a narrative style. The first chapter is titled "Nick Dunne: The Day of". I am under the impression that this book is going to be told in the form of diary entries. In the first chapter, Nick Dunne is the narrator. Characters who were introduced were his wife Amy Dunne, his sister Margaret, and his two parents. So far, I don’t think I am liking the main character, Nick. He seems as though he feels he could never be at fault. It seems as though he tries to blame everything on other people/things. He blamed being an unsuccessful writer on the internet. He then also goes on to insinuate unhappiness in their marriage was because his wife was upset. So far he just is not a likable character, but I do not hate that because I feel like that can make the reading interesting. I am interested to see if my feelings on him change throughout the story. The second chapter was titled "Amy Elliot: January 8 2005". I like her more than Nick. The way she talks about him is much more gentle than how he describes her. I am interested again to see if this will change as this was a flashback entry. Looking ahead at the other chapter titles I notice that her name changes from "Amy Elliot" to "Amy Elliot Dunne" to show the changes in time as you read along in the story. I like this detail and think that the author was clever for that smaller detail.
